City Council

Members of the Montclair City Council are elected by Montclair voters. The City Council is the governing body of the City. The membership of the City Council is comprised of the following five elected officials: Mayor, Mayor Pro Tem, and three Council Members. The Council Members appoint a Mayor Pro Tem following each biennial election. Council Members are elected in even-numbered years for staggered four-year terms. State law gives the City Council the authority to create a Redevelopment Agency. The City Council created the City of Montclair Redevelopment Agency in 1976. The Redevelopment Agency Board of Directors is comprised of the City Council Members. The Members of the Redevelopment Agency Board of Directors are recognized as the Chairman, Vice Chairman, and three Board Members. City Council and Redevelopment Agency Board meetings are held on the first and third Mondays of each month. The public is invited to attend these meetings. If you cannot attend in person but have Cable TV, you can turn to the Public Access Channel which provides coverage of the City Council meetings. City Council meetings reflect the most accessible of our legislative groups in this country. If you've never been to a City Council meeting, please plan to attend one soon.
