November 5, 2019

At the November 4, 2019 regular meeting of the City Council, it was determined that all 12 Council applicants would be given the opportunity to be interviewed by the City Council. The City Clerk was then directed to determine the random order in which the applicants would be interviewed, which resulted in the following order:

Interviews will be conducted before the City Council at a special meeting starting at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, November 12, 2019, in the Montclair City Council Chambers, 5111 Benito Street, Montclair, and may continue at subsequent meetings on or before November 21, 2019, if necessary.

The City Clerk received 12 applications from residents interested in serving on the City Council, whose names are listed below in alphabetical order by last name:

The selection of applicants to be interviewed will be determined by the City Council at its regularly scheduled meeting on Monday, November 4, 2019 at 7:00 p.m. in the City Council Chambers. The order of assignment of interviews will be determined by the City Clerk at random at the same meeting.

Interviews will be conducted before the City Council starting at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, November 12, 2019, in the Montclair City Council Chambers, 5111 Benito Street, Montclair, and may continue at subsequent meetings held on or before November 21, 2019, at 5:30 p.m., if necessary.

October 22, 2019

 At its October 21, 2019 regular meeting, the Montclair City Council, by a 3-1 vote with Mayor Dutrey, Mayor Pro Tem Raft, and Council Member Johnson in favor and Council Member Ruh against, approved an application and interview process to facilitate the appointment of a Montclair resident to fill the current vacancy on the City Council created by the untimely passing of Council Member Trisha Martinez.  There are three years remaining in the term; however, the term of this appointed office runs through the November 2020 General Municipal Election, after which the newly-elected individual shall complete the remaining 2 years of the term.

Applications to fill the vacancy on the City Council are now being accepted from interested Montclair residents who are legally registered to vote in the City at the time of appointment.  The application period is Tuesday, October 22, 2019 through 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 31, 2019. 

Interested parties can download the City Council Application Package including application questionnaire, City of Montclair Conflict of Interest Code, and Fair Political Practices Commission Form 700 below, or pick up a printed copy of the complete Application Package at Montclair City Hall, 5111 Benito Street. Applicants who have completed and submitted an application for the prior Council vacancy in January may complete a supplemental application and a Form 700.

Completed application packages or supplemental applications must be submitted to the Montclair City Clerk’s Office (5111 Benito Street, PO Box 2308, Montclair, CA 91763) no later than 5:00 p.m. on October 31, 2019.

The person appointed to fill the vacancy must be willing and able to attend meetings of the Montclair City Council.  The Montclair City Council regularly meets at 7:00 p.m. on the first and third Mondays of each month.  Attendance at City Council workshops and adjourned and special meetings of the City Council may also be required.

Interviews to fill the vacancy will be conducted before the City Council starting at 5:30 p.m. on dates to be determined and announced by the City Council at its meeting on November 4, 2019. The interviews shall take place between the dates of November 12, 2019, and November 21, 2019.  The order of assignment of interviews will be determined by random drawing at the November 4, 2019, regular meeting of the City Council at 7:00 p.m. in the Montclair City Council Chambers.
