Place your trash containers in the street, curbside, with the wheels touching the curb. The containers must be placed at least three feet from any obstructions, such as a vehicle, fence, lamppost, power pole, or mailbox and one foot between other automated containers. Vehicles may still be parked in the driveway or on the street as long as they are no closer than three feet from the containers. Should a vehicle block access to the containers, collection cannot be made.
- The bimonthly charges are $63.68 for trash and $57.12 for sewer for single-family residences. For multifamily residences the bimonthly charges are $76.88 per unit for trash and $57.12 per unit for sewer.
- We bill every other month, on the first of the month, unless the first falls on a weekend, in which case the billing is done the following Monday. When billed, you will be billed for the previous two months of service.
- Please contact Monte Vista Water District at (909) 625-0035 to start water service. The District will then forward all of your information to the City so a new trash account can be created and service can be started. Information given to the District is forwarded to the City on a weekly basis.
- No. The City of Montclair has an exclusive contract with Burrtec Waste Industries, Inc. for all residential and commercial trash collection.
Yes. The City of Montclair requires weekly trash collection service for all residential and commercial properties.
The benefits of this mandate are:

- Promotes public health by ensuring weekly trash removal from all properties within the City.
- No. The City of Montclair bills for trash and sewer only. Monte Vista Water District bills for water.
- To discontinue service and receive a closing bill, you must contact Monte Vista Water District at (909) 624-0035. The District will forward the information to the City.
- Payments may be made inside City Hall, Monday through Thursday from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. with cash, check, money order, or credit card. Payments may also be made by mail, utility drop box outside City Hall, automatic deduction from your checking account, or online with your checking account or credit card.
Yes, for your convenience we have two payment drop boxes located at City Hall, 5111 Benito Street. Payments received by 7:00 a.m. will receive same day credit. Payments for trash and sewer, business license and City insurance payments may be deposited in the drop boxes.

Yes. To set up your direct payment, please contact Customer Service at (909) 625-9472 to request an application or click on the link below to download an application. The account holder's signature and a voided check are required to complete this process. The payment will be deducted from your checking account on the 10th day of the month unless that day falls on the weekend, in which case the account will be debited on the Monday immediately following the 10th day.
- Yes, the City accepts Visa and MasterCard as payment for all City-provided services. Credit card payments can be accepted inside City Hall or with our Online Bill Pay.
- A returned check fee of $20.00 will be charged for any check returned unpaid by the processing bank.
Yes. If you are 65 years of age or older, just come in to City Hall and fill out a senior discount card or click on the link below for an application. Proof of age is required, the trash and sewer account must be in the applicant's name, and the applicant must reside at the service address. The senior discount is only applied to the trash charges.
City of Montclair Senior Citizen Trash Service Discount Application (Ages 65 and over)

The City of Montclair provides residential households with one (1) black trash container, one (1) green greenwaste container, and one (1) blue recycling container. Additional containers may be requested for an additional cost of $5.78 a month for a black trash container, $3.68 a month for a green greenwaste container, and $1.31 a month for a blue recycling container. Extra containers must be kept a minimum of six (6) months.

For residential recycling containers contact Customer Service at (909) 625-9472. The City of Montclair provides all residents with one (1) recycling container. The cost for an extra recycling container is $1.25 a month and must be kept for a minimum of six (6) months.
For commercial recycling bins contact Burrtec Waste at (909) 620-1353. Cost is determined on a case-by-case basis.

If the holiday falls on a weekday, your trash will delayed one day. If the holiday falls on a weekend, your trash service will not be affected.
- All payments not received by 6:00 p.m. on the due date will be charged 10% on any unpaid balance. Payment window hours are 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday. DO NOT MAIL YOUR PAYMENT ON THE DUE DATE. Postmarks will not be accepted as proof of timely payment.

- In January 2002, the City of Montclair passed Ordinance No. 02-815 allowing liens to be placed on properties that have past due trash and sewer bills. Once accounts become 90 days delinquent, owners are sent a notification letter via certified mail and a lien is placed on the property if the delinquency still goes unpaid. A $50 lien fee and an $8 release of lien fee is added to any lien amount before the lien is placed with the County of San Bernardino.
- If a lien was placed on your property, payment in full can be made directly to the City of Montclair up until August of each year. In August of each year any unpaid liens will be assessed on the property taxes.
- In August of each year, any unpaid liens on a property are placed on the property owner's tax bill. At that time, payment of the lien can only be made with your property taxes. Once full payment has been received, a Release of Lien will be filed on your behalf with the San Bernardino County Recorder's Office.
I am refinancing / selling my house and trash and sewer liens have been placed against my property. What do I do?
