Preliminary Steps Prior to Submitting Business License Application
File a Fictitious Business Name Statement with the County
A fictitious name or D.B.A. (Doing Business As) is the name a business uses other than the owner's last name, or in the case of a corporation, one that is different from that registered in the Articles of Incorporation.
Obtain a seller's permit (or resale license) from the State Board of Equalization
If your business involves the sale of products, either retail or wholesale, you are required to obtain a seller's permit from the State Board of Equalization.
State of California License
If your business is required to be licensed by the State, we will need a copy of the license. For example: Doctor, Attorney, or Contractor.
San Bernardino County Permit
If your business is a food business, you are required to obtain a Health Permit.
Submit all the applicable documents above along with a completed application to the Business License Department
Applications may be submitted and fees paid between 7:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Articles of Incorporation may be substituted for the Fictitious Business Name Statement (if not applicable). The license certificate will then be mailed to you approximately four weeks later.
