What are the City’s parking restrictions?

You can review the City of Montclair’s full municipal code approved by the City Council regarding parking restrictions at this link. Parking citations can be resolved at the Police Department located on the corner of Arrow Highway and Monte Vista Avenue.

Does the City ever paint house numbers on the curb?

The City typically partners with one authorized service provider who will offer to repaint house numbers on the curbs for Montclair residents every two years. How can I find a list of open bids for City projects?

All City projects that are open for bids will be listed on PlanetBids. Contractors who own an account on the site can adjust their settings to be notified when a new project is posted. The City does not keep a list of release dates for future or current project bids.

What is the process for Street, Storm Drain, or Sewer improvement plan checks?

First, contact the Engineering Department to inform staff that you intend to hand deliver a new submittal and schedule an appointment. Can I park a commercial truck on the street overnight?

Municipal Code 8.6.090 restricts parking for commercial vehicles, trailer, and commercial equipment with a gross weight rating of 10,000 pounds or more in R-1 (Residential), R-2 (Two-family Residential), R-3 (Multifamily Residential) zones with a few exceptions. Can I use one transportation permit to cover multiple trucks?

No. One transportation permit is valid for one truck; meaning it only covers a single vehicle traveling from one origin to one destination in a single journey (multiple trips for annual use permits). The use of one permit for multiple trucks is prohibited and may result in a citation.

Do I need a permit for a yard sale?

In the year 2024, there are no permits required for yard sales, however that could change in the future. Yard sales are only permitted during scheduled yard sale events. You can find the schedule at this link.

How much do encroachment/construction permits cost?

Construction permit pricing for projects that affect the public right-of-way, such as utilities running along the street, can be found on page 2 of our Engineering Fee Schedule. If the inspector needs to reissue a permit before or after it expires, additional fees will be required.

How much do grading plan checks cost?
