Montclair Housing Corporation

In June 1994, the Montclair Redevelopment Agency Board of Directors approved the formation of the Montclair Housing Corporation (MHC). The MHC was formed as a nonprofit, public-benefit corporation organized for the purpose of increasing, improving, and preserving affordable housing in the City of Montclair. The nonprofit corporation is organized for charitable purposes under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. Formation of the MHC ensures that the Agency’s units remain affordable to persons whose incomes do not exceed the low-to-moderate income levels as defined by state law. This has been accomplished through the 30-year Lease and Regulatory Agreement between the MHC and the Agency, and recordation of deed restrictions against all Agency acquired properties. The City Council serves as the MHC Board of Directors, and the City Manager serves as the Executive Director.

City Staff are responsible for the day-to-day maintenance of the Montclair Housing Authority-owned single-family and multifamily rental units.  Staff currently manages 25 single-family units which include a condominium unit, and 80 apartment units.  All the properties are rented to low-to-moderate income families with tenants undergoing a comprehensive tenant screening process.

The MHC has a contract with JD Property Management to assist with management of all MHC properties. JD Property Management staff are responsible for responding to all tenant and rental property inquiries.
