Household Hazardous Waste

What is Household Hazardous Waste (HHW)?

Many common household products are hazardous. These include medications, paint, motor oil, antifreeze, auto batteries, lawn care products, pest control products, drain cleaners, pool care products such as chlorine and acids, and household cleaners. If these products are handled or disposed of incorrectly, they can pose a threat to human health, animals and the environment. When these products are discarded, they become “household hazardous waste.”

In California, it is illegal to dispose of household hazardous waste, or HHW, in the trash, down the drain, or by abandonment. Household hazardous waste needs to be disposed of through a HHW Collection Facility.

Montclair residents can take household hazardous waste to the HHW Collection Facilities below.
